Underwater Inspection & Hydrographic Survey

Coastal Engineering performed Level 2 underwater inspections and hydrographic surveys of 41 subunits of the Westbound Bay Bridge. These detailed inspections included partial cleaning per MDTA requirements, and were performed by our team of ADCI commercial divers led by a Maryland-registered PE Diver. All inspections were performed in accordance with the MDTA Facilities Inspection Manual and reports were completed and submitted via Maryland's ASIR system. The purpose of these inspections is to identify and document damaged and deteriorated substructure elements. Inspection and documentation included in-depth coding of the concrete H-piles and piers, caissons, and a detailed scour evaluation.

We work directly with stakeholders to determine any unique challenges before performing these inspections. We use Commercial Surface Supplied Air and/or Commercial Air SCUBA diving methods to complete the work effectively and efficiently. All divers are ADCI certified and hold all relevant FHWA, health, and safety certifications.
